Began collecting Folk and Outsider Art in 1970

Opened the Carl Hammer Gallery in 1979 focusing on
presenting Folk/Outsider Art in a Contemporary Art context
·
Expanded gallery to include the broad spectrum of
contemporary art by inviting mainstream artists to exhibit in gallery as
part of the gallery program. The outsider aesthetic still dictates the
artist selection process. 1985

Former president, Chicago Art Dealers Association,
1991-1995
·
Founding member INTUIT, Chicago’s art center for
the preservation and promotion of folk and outsider art.
